2nd Guru
Guru Angad Dev Ji
(1504 - 1552)
Early Life & Guruship
Guru Angad Dev Ji was originally named Bhai Lehna. After meeting Guru Nanak Dev Ji, he dedicated his life to serving him with complete devotion. Because of his obedience and humility, he was chosen as the second Guru.
Gurmukhi Script
He played a major role in developing and standardizing the Gurmukhi script. This made education and the reading of Gurbani accessible to common people, breaking the monopoly of the elite classes on learning.
Physical Fitness
He also emphasized physical health alongside spiritual health, starting the tradition of 'Mall Akhara' (wrestling arenas) to keep the Sikh community strong and healthy.
