Eternal Guru
Guru Granth Sahib Ji
(1708 - Forever)
The Living Guru
In 1708, Guru Gobind Singh Ji transferred the Guruship to the holy scripture, declaring it the eternal Guru of the Sikhs. It is not just a book, but the living embodiment of the Gurus' wisdom.
Universal Message
It contains the writings of six Sikh Gurus, along with hymns from various Hindu and Muslim saints (Bhagats). This reflects the core Sikh value of equality and respect for all spiritual truths.
Respect and Protocol
Sikhs treat Guru Granth Sahib Ji with the highest royal respect. It rests on a throne (Takht), is fanned with a Chaur Sahib, and has a daily routine of waking up (Prakash) and resting (Sukhasan).
