Guru Nanak Dev Ji

(1469 - 1539)

Early Life

Guru Nanak Dev Ji was born in 1469 in the village of Talwandi, which is now known as Nankana Sahib in present-day Pakistan. From a very young age, he showed a deep spiritual wisdom and a lack of interest in worldly possessions or empty religious rituals.

Founding of Sikhi

He is the founder of the Sikh religion. His central message was 'Ik Oankar'—that there is only One Creator who connects all of humanity. He heavily rejected the caste system and taught that all people, regardless of gender, religion, or background, are completely equal in the eyes of God.

The Three Pillars

Guru Nanak Dev Ji established three core pillars for living a good, truthful life:

The Udasis (Journeys)

To spread his message of truth and love, Guru Nanak Dev Ji went on four major walking journeys, known as Udasis. Accompanied by his companion Bhai Mardana, he traveled thousands of miles across India, Tibet, the Middle East, and beyond, engaging in dialogue with holy men of various religions.
